We attended the Michigan Fiber Festival in August and had a great time. We took the entire family and stayed busy all weekend. Once we unloaded and had all of the sheep settled in to their pens it was time for the real fun to start!
Sheryl put in a lot of overtime before the trip to collect pictures to create a display board of our sheep and additional farm pictures and information.
This year we had our first ever farm booth. Karen set-up and ran the booth selling fleeces and her handmade wool batts, and handspun yarn. It was a lot of work, but she had great success and plans to do it again! If you are interested in any of her wool products they are available for purchase on her Etsy page: https://www.etsy.com/shop/KanieMae
On Saturday the shows began! With two breeds we stayed pretty busy trying to make sure we kept up with who needed to be in the ring next. There were several Jacob breeders there this year. We were told that if at least three different breeders attend next year, we will get to have our own breed show!
Overall we had a good show and ended up winning Reserve Champion Shetland Ram with Brandon.
On Sunday it was time for the kids to take center-stage. Youth shows are always entertaining to watch. Ethan won first place in showmanship for his age group, and Anna Claire won first place in her age group for the youth obstacle course (the shepherd and the sheep have to complete the course).
The kids also participated in the youth costume contest. We present to you Little Bo Peep and the Little Boy Who Lived Down the Lane (Baa Baa Black Sheep).
We had a great time at the show and can’t wait to attend again next year.
